Marble Cake with Cocoa and Vanilla
A moist marble cake in which light vanilla batter and dark cocoa batter merge into a beautiful pattern. It tastes just as good with coffee as it does as a sweet finish to a meal.

Ingredients
- 250 g Butter
- 10 g Butter for the tin
- 250 g Sugar
- 4 Stück Eggs
- 1 TL Vanilla extract
- 300 g Plain flour
- 1 Packung Baking powder
- 1 Prise Salt
- 200 ml Milk
- 40 g Cocoa powder
Method
- Preheat the oven to 175 °C, top and bottom heat. Grease a loaf tin (about 25 cm) with butter and dust it with a little flour.
- Beat the softened butter with the sugar and a pinch of salt for about 5 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Mix the flour and baking powder and fold them into the butter mixture alternately with the milk until you have a smooth batter.
- Transfer about a third of the batter to a second bowl and stir in the cocoa. If the cocoa portion is too thick, loosen it with 2 tbsp of milk from the reserved amount, only if needed.
- Spoon the light and dark batters alternately into the tin, then drag a knife once loosely through the batter in a spiral to create the marble pattern.
- Bake the cake on the lower third of the oven for about 55 to 60 minutes. Check with a wooden skewer: if it comes out dry, the cake is done.
- Let the cake cool in the tin for 10 minutes, then turn it out onto a wire rack and let it cool completely before you slice it.
